PBHL-H303 Health Admin Data Analysis

Dashboard

This dashboard analyzes 531 orthopedic patient visits in 2023, tracking key metrics like average satisfaction (5.12/10) and average wait time (~36 minutes). It includes interactive filters and summary tables breaking down satisfaction scores and patient volume by month, as well as wait times by hour of day. The data reveals notable fluctuations, with satisfaction peaking in January (6.43) and dropping lowest in June (4.06), while wait times tend to increase during late-night hours. This is an example of how operational data (wait times, referral patterns, patient demographics) connects to patient experience outcomes in a healthcare setting. Below is an image of my work.

What I learned

This project was a significant step for me because it was my first time transforming raw, messy healthcare data into a cohesive, interactive dashboard. I spent a great deal of time cleaning the data, handling missing satisfaction scores and filtering out records from the wrong year, which taught me that real-world data is rarely ready to use right away.

What I’m most proud of is how the final dashboard clearly connects operational metrics (like wait times) to patient outcomes (satisfaction scores). For example, I discovered that satisfaction drops significantly in months with higher average wait times, which is a powerful insight for clinic management.

Going forward, this project will serve as an excellent portfolio piece because it showcases my ability to use Excel for data cleaning, pivot tables, and dashboard design. More importantly, it taught me how to tell a story with data, turning raw numbers into actionable recommendations for improving patient care.
